First Eagle Chick Hatched

Postby veery » Mon Apr 10, 2006 8:09 pm

Northeast Utilities reports the first eagle egg hatched April 10, 2006, around 1:30pm. Note that both parents are present for the event. Does the male parent pass around smoked fish to his buddies, I wonder?

Here's the first chick, about one day old. Notice how it seems to be all eyes. The second egg hatched today, April 14, with both parents standing by. The male is bringing a good supply of fish to the nest.

Cool! Thanks for sharing this. I'm rarely online during daylight so I don't get it "live"

I do believe there is fish, 1 adult eagle and 2 babies in this picture!

Where's Waldo?

Starzz, I think you also captured the second eagle in this picture. In the lower right corner, the white spot is the tail; the mottled shape is the back of the eagle. Its head is down and not visible here.

We see two bald eagles, on the beach down the road, carrying sticks and twigs. They must be building a nest nearby. Beautiful birds.

Eagle Nest Mother's Day Update

Postby veery » Sun May 14, 2006 4:19 pm

The eaglets are now about a month old. They are able to sit up and walk around in the nest, holding heads erect. An adult, probably the female, has spent the past several days with the nestlings huddled close--the cold, rainy weather continues in New England. If you haven't checked the live camera or the still gallery, here's the link:

One Eagle has Fledged

Postby veery » Fri Jun 23, 2006 12:57 am

When I checked the eaglecam earlier today, I believe there were two young eagles in the nest. One appeared to be flapping its wings at the edge of the picture. I checked again around 8PM, and it looks as if there is only one eagle in the nest.

This one should fledge in another day or so--if I'm lucky, I'll see it happen.
