About the Photo Gallery

An Image Gallery has been added to the board for members who want to upload photos and the like to the Internet. It is free but for members of the For The Birds Board only. You must be registered and logged in to see it.

Gallery Rules:

Bird, and bird related images preferred. You can put up something that has nothing to do with birds if you manage to work it into a post on For The Birds.

No pornography permitted.
I decide what is pornographic. There will be no debate on this issue.

You may hot-link your images onto other boards.
Please keep in mind that our sponsors pay for our bandwidth. If it gets too expensive I will curtail it. We will be a LOT more lenient with regular For The Birds posters than with barely active ones regarding hot-linking to other sites but for now, go for it.

Respect the work of others. All images must be of your own creation or you must have permission from the image’s owner to use it.

Be kind in your comments in rating others’ images. Unless someone specifically asks for criticism of their image remember the old saying ‘ If you can’t say something nice…….” OTOH, people love positive feedback. There is no contest here….yet (hint, hint)

Remember this, like birding, is supposed to be fun!

Avatars

You can access the avatar gallery by clicking on Profile up top of the board . The place to link your avatar is down the bottom of your profile page somewhere.

Just click on "Profile" at the top of this page and scroll all the way down to the Avatar Control Panel. Click on the "Show Gallery" box just above the "submit" box. You will see a bunch of images. If you like one, click the little dot underneath and then click "select avatar" down bottom If you want to use an avatar not shown you can upload your avatar to the photo gallery and then hot-link it into the Profile.

You'll end up back in your profile where you see how the avatar will look. Click that "Submit" box at the bottom of the page and you have it.

FAQ

How do I post a topic in a forum?
Easy -- click the relevant button on either the forum or topic screens. You may need to register before you can post a message. The facilities available to you are listed at the bottom of the forum and topic screens (the You can post new topics, You can vote in polls, etc. list)

How do I edit or delete a post?
Unless you are the board admin or forum moderator you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post (sometimes for only a limited time after it was made) by clicking the edit button for the relevant post. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. This will only appear if no one has replied; it also will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post (they should leave a message saying what they altered and why). Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.

How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done via your profile. Once created you can check the Add Signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio box in your profile. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box on the posting form.

How do I create a poll?
Creating a poll is easy -- when you post a new topic (or edit the first post of a topic, if you have permission) you should see a Add Poll form below the main posting box. If you cannot see this then you probably do not have rights to create polls. You should enter a title for the poll and then at least two options -- to set an option type in the poll question and click the Add option button. You can also set a time limit for the poll, 0 being an infinite amount. There will be a limit to the number of options you can list, which is set by the board administrator

How do I edit or delete a poll?
As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator, or board administrator. To edit a poll, click the first post in the topic, which always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote then users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if people have already placed votes only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it; this is to prevent people rigging polls by changing options mid-way through a poll

How do I post an image in the For The Birds' forums?

RIGHT click on your image that you you have uploaded to the Gallery or other website and left click on “Properties”. Hi-light the “Location”. I’m using a Green Heron image as an example here. Your image will have a different ending on the location. It looks something like this: http://www.your_website.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_Greenh.jpg
Press the CTRL and the letter C on you keyboard at the same time.

Cool, now pop back to the appropriate forum and either start a new thread or reply just like you usually do. Hit CTRL and the letter V on your keyboard at the same time. The address you just copied on from “Properties” http://www.forthebirdsboard.com/gallery/albums/userpics/and so on should appear.

Hi-lite the address and click on the little “Img” button up top. So now you have [img]http://www.forthebirdsboard.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_Greenh.jpg[/img] or something similar. You might want to click preview to make sure it worked. The most common problem is having a space between the Img tags and you image’s address. If there is, then just delete the space. And try again. Submit and bask in the joy of your fellow birders

Do not get discouraged if you don’t master this first try. You will be able to do it. It will become old hat. If you need help just ask! Click here for more on
